The National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation have partnered with U.S. state arts agencies to support Poetry Out Loud, a contest that encourages the nation's youth to learn about great poetry through memorization and recitation. On Saturday, April 8, 2017, the San Luis Obispo County Child Care Planning Council and ARTS Obispo will host the 39thAnnual Children’s Day in the Plaza with Passport to the Arts.  This event is held every year to celebrate April as National Month of the Child and Child Abuse Prevention Month.

The SLO County Alliance for Arts Education is a large network of our community that believes the arts are core to an education. Our mission is to advocate for arts education for all students in every school community in San Luis Obispo County.  We envision a core curriculum that provides sequential, standards-aligned arts education for every student.

The California State Summer School for the Arts is a rigorous, pre-professional, month-long training program in the visual and performing arts, creative writing, animation and film for talented artists of high school age. CSSSA provides a supportive environment in which students hone acquired skills and explore new techniques and ideas for an intense and exciting learning experience. The school was created by the California Legislature, and held its first session in 1987.
