6:00 pm to 9:00 pm

For August’s Art After Dark, the Jack House welcomes you to come be inspired by page-turning works of contemporary California artists who use the book as their artistic medium. For one night only, a collection of eye-catching works of art will be on exhibit at the Jack House. These books will have you questioning, “what does it mean to be a book?”<!--break-->See works of leading California book artists, including Julie Chen (Flying Fish Press, Berkeley), Harry and Sandra Reese (Turkey Press, Isla Vista), and Scripps College Press (Claremont). These limited-edition books are part of the Artists’ Books collection at Special Collections and Archives at Cal Poly. A highlight of the exhibit will be the work of local book artists Meryl Perloff and Hayley Goodwein. Once you’ve been inspired by the artists’ books on display, make your own artist book! Take home your own book that can be the start of your own collection of these special books. Also make sure to take a tour of the historic Jack House and peek at the Jack Family’s library of early California authors. Photo Captions:Bon Bon Mots: A Fine Assortment of Books, by Julie Chen (Flying Fish Press)The Wine, a miniature book in a cork, by Suzanne ThomasWorld Without End, by Julie Chen (Flying Fish Press)Students exploring artists' books at Cal Poly's Special Collections and Archives
