Richard Rowe

This year my studio is OPEN ONLY 1 WEEKEND, 10am-5pm, Sat-Sun/Oct. 14-15, Artist #43, for 2017's Open Studios Art Tour. SLO WOODS ANIMAL SHELTER will receive a portion of my ceramic art sales. My industrial studio is a convenient stop off Highway 1--exactly the kind of authentic art space guests love to visit! You’ll find lots of surprises when you visit Richard Rowe Clayworks.  Visit early, since new designs sometime fly out the door with collectors.

For most of the year, I’ve been experimenting and refining 2 new designs on my latest pottery, “Tang Max” and “Corduroy.” Guests get a kick out of surprising common-place tools I’m using to create novel effects on my new functional and decorative ceramics. Visitors can explore how I make planters, casserole dishes, bowls, mugs, covered jars, along with thrown and hand-built pots for succulents. I enjoy showing guests my new techniques and describing how the names came about.

I’ve been working with clay for over 35 years. It’s been my livelihood and passion for decades. I’m still loving everything (OK, most things) about ceramic arts. I get motivation and energy from new sources like interacting with plant show guests in CA towns, attending the Central Coast Cactus & Succulent Society, talking with other potters & artists & re-visiting ideas I’ve been thinking about for decades. My goal is to offer guests affordable top-quality items for personal use or gifts.

Please visit year-round--private visits are available by appointment: 387 Quintana ‘B’, Morro Bay, CA 93442, 805.235.9721, www.roweclayworks.com

As a tribute to my long-time studio partner, BARBARA FLYNN OF MOONSTONE POTTERY, who passed away during 2013’s Open Studios Tour, I’ll also feature Barbara’s pottery, with donations from sales of her fine craft going to SLO WOODS ANIMAL SHELTER. I think Barbara would especially appreciate this tribute. This is the only location where you can find her remaining treasured designs.
